Southeast Asia Reading Project

CAMBODIA - LAOS - VIETNAM

Project

This project's primary objective is to increase literacy rates in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to facilitate access to quality education and to create a strong literacy environment. AEA will adopt needs-specific approaches for each country.

In Vietnam, we will develop primary school reading rooms in Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen, two of the most impoverished provinces. We will work to improve national policies on reading by targeting government and school administrators. The project will affect 67,000 children, 115 schools and 2,307 classes.

In Laos, our objective is to build and promote a strong literacy environment by working with the Ministry of Education. Our target includes provincial education services, community councils, school administrators, teachers and parents. The project will affect between 200,000 and 300,000 people.

In all these projects, AEA will encourage parent participation, ensure continuous training of librarians and promote the exchange of best practices between schools. In addition, AEA will enrich the quality and variety of books, adapted to the needs and interests of the children in each country.
