Aide et Action in China mobilizes for the education of women (8th March 2010)

On December 15th 2009, Aide et Action in China organized Artjam a fund raising through painting for charity event in Hong Kong to raise awareness about the fate of the 65 million illiterate women in the country. Participants were invited to buy a painting kit worth 130 €; more than 50 people participated in the event, thanks to which nearly HK$ 17,000 could be raised. These funds will go towards financing literacy classes for rural Chinese women. Hu Yong Yi a famous Chinese artist donated 5 of her works to AeA. Funds from the sale of these art works will also be donated to Aide et Action.

Forum on domestic violence in Cambodia (3rd March 2010)

Within the partnership in early childhood between Aide et Action and New Humanity, parenting education sessions are held each month, and a topic related to child care and development is discussed. In February 2010, the question of domestic violence was discusseld. Interestingly, this issue was already raised in the very first session on parenting education (PE) by parents in Kampong Chnnang Province, Cambodia. The session in October 2009 revealed a common issue of domestic violence affecting women in the villages.  The women’s shared concerns, worries and fears led to a collective outpour of their sentiments regarding their husbands always coming home drunk and beating them and their children.

8th March: International Women's Day (25th February 2010)

Education as a means to fight crisis
The 2008 financial crisis has left 22 million women unemployed worldwide. Because of the financial crisis the school attendance rate is drastically dropping and the school drop outs are on the rise. Before the crisis, there were already 41 million girls out of schools and 515 million illiterate women. As this year’s International Women Day is drawing near, Aide et Action affirms that educating women is a priority to help them face the current crisis.
