Begun in 1981, our programmes in India today are carried out in partnership with 23 Indian NGOs which work with very underprivileged people. This partnership enables a greater number of actions to take place, while at the same time being able to be specific to the needs of a large number of marginalised people.
Even although our first programmes were in the south of the country, today, our partners work in 12 states, in both the north and the south (our office in Chennai, opened in 1988, was followed by an office in Bhopal in 1999).
Today, the Aide-et-Action team in India works together with the NGO partners to uphold the right to education for the whole population. As a result in 2002 more than 100 000 children had been helped by Aide et Action and its partners, which has meant that children whether they were from villages or shanty towns, whether they were workers, girls or disabled, have all had access to a good quality education, appropriate to their needs.
