“I became a sponsor of Aide et Action because this association contributes to children’s education in underprivileged countries and this seemed to me the better way of defending the cause of children”.
“There are many ways to help: some prefer associations that require food and water, clothes or medical supplies mostly in situation of dire needs...I prefer the approach that consists in trying to make children autonomous”.
“I felt like establishing this kind of privileged relation, I just did not want to help plenty of anonymous people, that’s what I found very interesting. The gift of education is in my opinion, the most important, urgent and equitable thing to offer”.
“When you become a sponsor, you are given a small report containing the child’s picture, information about him, his family, his school, his village together with its tradition and customs...Then we contact each other, and write to one another which is very rewarding because we learn a lot of things through these letters as well as they learn things about us. Actually, a real exchange takes place and it really moved me when I started to commit myself”.
“I’ve been a sponsor for a certain number of years now, since I previously supported another little boy named Vankatesoulou. All started 16 years ago and this sponsorship is over since you take in charge a child’s education until the end of primary school. From what I’ve heard lately, he wanted to be a physician, I’m really proud of his ambition”.
“Now, I support Kartig and I met him. I had the great opportunity of meeting him when I went to the field with the association last year; this trip was extremely moving”.
“We traveled in South India and I fortunately went and visited Kartig in his village. I also met his father, his mother and all his little family... it was really an exciting moment : all of a sudden, you find yourself in front of this little boy, he is intimidated as much as you are...then you are really at the core of things, you meet him and talk to him, you take part in the day to day life of the child , and the whole thing gives the sponsorship a much more important dimension”.
“When you facilitate the education of a child, you find it surprising to see that the whole structure that surrounds him, mainly represented by mothers, is changing as well...When I went to India, I saw how dramatic women’s conditions sometimes are. They want to emancipate themselves and so a lot of women have the same projects and try to educate themselves in order not to be subjected any more. Consequently, our action has a quite wide range”.
“When I started my first sponsorship, I did not have any children and I thought that my initiative was like adopting one. Then, I actually adopted my little girls and my values then changed: the relation tied with Kartig is certainly important and strong, but on a different level...I can’t say I adopted a child from the other side of the world, but I consider him as a member of my own family, a family living far away”.
“If I had a dream for the future, it would be that a greater number of sponsors join Aide et Action so that an even larger number of children could benefit from an education, a good education”.
